Monday: JJ Abrams. (Yes, yes, he’s directing Super 8…but before that and Lost and Alias and Star Trek and Fringe….there was this.)
And this still remains the best thing J.J. Abrams has ever done. I could gush forever about it, but the big thing is that unlike Alias, Lost, Cloverfield, etc., it finished strong. Granted, it didn’t have the same crushing weight of expectations as his other productions, but the audience definitely was not left disappointed or bitter in the end (cough, cough, flash-sideways was a bullshit cop out, cough, cough). From the tarot cards to the time travel to Todd Mulcahy and Shmeghan Shirts, this was one of my favorite hours of episodic TV ever.
(And, sorry, NPR, after years of hindsight, I can safely say: Noel was a wiener. Team Ben all the way.)
Good morning.
